So, we have finally got around to firing up our very own blog. . . long overdue for sure, and what better way to kick things off then to introduce our brand new backyard bee-hive!!
Our ‘trunk-o-fun’ for the weekend! We started the day with a trip to Prairie Restorations for an assortment of native plants for the home garden. Just baby plants to start, there are about 80 little guys in there. The makings of a fine perennial garden for sure. In the back you can see the mini hive. . .
We moved these cute little gals in over the weekend and they seem to be taking to their new, larger home quite well. . . In just a hour or two, they moved out of their ‘mobile home,’ set-up the front door guards, found a water supply and were already foraging for pollen in the neighborhood, bringing in some bright red pollen grains.
More formal introductions to come!
P.S. In case you were wondering, we do have a permit to keep bees in our backyard… Gotta play by the rules!
